Exclusive interview with DEES

I performed an interview with DEES, visual hiphop artist from Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He has been a guest DJ at the fourteenth edition of weLOVEweFUNK, the samples versus originals special. Well, now he is joining the weLOVEweFUNK DJ team again at the Queensday gig, so be sure to get there and show us some love! Check out the interview here.

Date: 30.04.12 // Place: Klokgebouw square, Strijp S, Eindhoven // From 10:00 until 17:00 // Outdoor // Free entrance!

Queensday gig & another digging holiday

Three things going on right now. First, I’m in the finishing stages of the fourth installment of the Funk 45s mixtape series. This time it’s going to be an hour of laidback, drug use and lovemaking inducing funk, soul & R&B burners. Just keep an eye on my blog and www.welovewefunk.nl.

Second, I’ve got a crate digging / nature park camping trip to the States planned for next month. Will visit the cities of Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland, Sacramento and San Francisco. And the beautiful countryside in between. Will bring some heavy heavy funk back to Holland for sure. Can’t wait!

And third, partypeople in Eindhoven do not need to go to Amsterdam on Queensday, April 30. Your wining, dining and dancing needs will be satisfied at the Klokgebouw square, next to Skatepark Area51. weLOVEweFUNK ft. DEES, the Frantic Friday DJs and Zieke Zuiden Hiphop will provide the tunes. Music starts at 10:00 AM, until dark and beyond. See y’all there!

AND, the next regular weLOVEweFUNK party will be on June 8. We’ll have a very special guest indeed, and a musical theme for this night that is close to my heart. Verrrrry close!

Last-minute show-up

Tomorrow I get to spin some 45s at the releaseshow of my friends in The Risque, a Eindhoven-based indie band. Their support act, Richie Dagger, have their roots in bands such as Hooghwater, Reactionaries and Restless Youth. Showtime is 22:00, expect some 60s deep soul and raw funk from 02:00 till late.

I totally forgot to put up the flyer for the party of my friend Hence Dupree two weeks ago, a mucho talented DJ from the city of Arnhem. He spins some totally unexpected mixes of old soul, hiphop and beats – you better check him out in a club near you sometime soon.

weLOVEweFUNK mixtape vol.2

My man Damn RIJT and me put together the second installment of the vinyl-only weLOVEweFUNK mixtape series. It features some not-so-common songs of well known funk and soul artists, flavoured with some rarer obscurities which results in an hour of relaxed grooves. Plus the more serious diggers out there will recognize some killer samples. Enjoy! DOWNLOAD HERE.
