Good news comes in bundles! At a fresh weLOVEweFUNK party January 27th 2012, for the occasion specially editioned ‘Sixties Soul Special‘, we will present the finest in sixties soul, boogaloo and popcorn oldies. On vinyl, of course. Also I am glad to present to you an in-depth interview I did with our special guest DJ: Jay Cee Corp! of DJ collective Club Cliché. As usual, it’s in Dutch.

Cannot read dutch? No worries. Be sure to tune in on Jay Cee Corp’s streaming non-stop radio show. Only good shit in here!

And, oh, before I forget. Give this 45 a spin, will ya? Specially recommended by Jay Cee Corp! himself.

Keep digging!

An advice I’m sure happy to follow. For all you dutchies, check out the interview I did with Le Pêcheur de Perles, cratedigger extraordinaire from Groningen, Netherlands.

KEEP DIGGING!

Funk 45s vol. 2 mixtape….and more!

ALL TRACKS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD (RAR – separate MP3s).

It feels like yesterday Paul (DamnRIJT) and I picked up our records and started playing them for a dozen people in the bar of skatepark Area51 back in June 2009. Coming Friday, October 28, is the fourteenth edition already. Two years ago, I couldn’t have imaged to me still being able to keep doing this shit bimonthly ever since. Collecting records has become a some sort of addiction since, culminating in a part-time crate digging journey I just took to California. It is mindblowing how many great records are to be found over there. I’ll be sure to bring my best US gems to the show!

I feel people are slowly picking up on the funk here in Eindhoven, seeing that crowds of around 80 people keep coming to our free parties in an area that is way outside of the city center. We keep the cover free, the prices for drinks and snacks low and we try to keep things fresh with guest DJs, bringing different flavors in their record bags. From northern soul and brasil to italo disco, we’ve had some variation already. And people seem to love that, like seeing the b-boy battle we have seen last edition in August. It is just awesome.

For the next edition, we have asked hiphop visual artist DEES (check out his site www.deestv.com, it’s amazing) to spin some of his hiphop vinyl with us. As hiphop has a lot of dues to pay to old funk, soul and r&b records, it is not more than a logical consequence of weLOVEweFUNK to feature a hip hop vs. originals party night. Hope to see you there!

DEES is exposing his work at the Area51 from Saturday October 22nd until Friday 28, be sure to check that out as well. Find below an example of his hip hop influenced art.

New gigs!

Summer is over, and I’m happy to keep on bringing the heat by spinning good old funky records at these parties.

Rob Swift – Dust to Dust (2008)

Here is an awesome mixtape by one of the world’s best DJs, Rob Swift. The songs featured on this mix all stem from the tunes the 70s b-boy movement breaked to. Swift’s skills are exceptional, and his backspinning techniques seam different cuts to one another with the greatest ease. Which makes this mix a great listen. Expect some well known classic breaks in here!
